What is SORD?

SORD ia a abbriviation of "Social and Opinion Research Database Project", organized by Faculty of Social Information, Sapporo Gakuin University. Being started in 1990, we have collected informations of the social surveys directed by sociologists(the definition of "sociologist" follows whether he/she belongs to JSS(Japan Sociological Society). The JSS members' social survey database is provided in this WWW site and you can search through this DB.After the concept of Data Archive prevailed in 1990s, we named our organiztion as "SORD Data Archive", and have been providing functions concerning collecting, managing, and providing datasets or meta-informations of Japanese social surveys.
In 2002, Japan Sociological Society have offered us that they are ready to take over the service of JSS members' social survey database. We decided not only to accept the offer but also to continue managing SORD data archive under new mission to become a regional archive at Northern part of Japan. In this site we inform you the details and outputs of our acivities, devided into 5 parts, as "intro"(introduction), "jssdb"(Japan Sociological Society Database), "hssdb"(Hokkaido Sociological Society Database), and "archive"(Science of Archive Management).

SORD projects

SORD is now developing 5 projects as mentioned above.

１．Making JSS members' Social Survey Database (Till late 1990s)

gathered over 1200 cases of social survey profile informations（from early 1980s to late 1990s）, edited them, and provides the database in this web site.

２．Making Hokkaido social survey database

Our present main activity. Part of this activity is introduced in this web.

３．Gathering and Managing Social Survey Informations and Social Survey Datasets.

As to important Social Survey, we also collect raw data, coding sheets, and other materials to be a library of social survey data. These informations and datasets are available undercondition.

４．Constructing Data Archive Management Science

This new kind of project are being percepted, but record management science is still on the development. This Archive intends to contribute to this new field of research. Our academic outputs are available in this page (sorry, Japanese only so far).

５．Organizing Workshop Every Year

Every year we have workshop at Sapporo Gakuin University. This workshop intends to level up our abilty, and networking with related organizations and actors as well.
